Bollywood, fashion world unite against cervical cancer

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

A bevy of popular names from the world of fashion and Bollywood came together Saturday night to create awareness on cervical cancer.

Actors Kunal Kapoor and Yuvika Chaudhary, singer Shibani Kashyap and Miss India Earth Hasleen Kaur walked the runway to show their support for the cause.

Ace fashion designers Namrata Joshipura, Anju Modi and Poonam Bhagat showcased varied collections, which ranged from white angelic anarkali suits to glittering black pants.

"It's very important that people are coming out and creating such awareness about cervical cancer because it's a cancer that kills one woman every seven minutes. It is the only cancer that can be prevented. There is a vaccination for it, " Kunal Kapoor told.

"We are proud to launch 'Guard Your Angel', an initiative to create awareness on cervical cancer and its preventive options. I don't think many people are aware of that. I think not only women but men should also come forward for the cause.

We all have mothers, sisters, wives and girlfriends who we should take care of, " said K.G. Ananthakrishnan, managing director of MSD Pharmaceuticals India.

Shibani Kashyap, who sang a few verses of the song she had created to support the cause, said there should be campaigns and ads for the not-so-tech-savvy women, so that they are also informed about the cancer.

"There needs to be more campaigns on television. Women who are housewives or the ones who do not surf the net, they do watch television, " she said.

Femina Miss India Earth 2011 Hasleen Kaur said women should not be bogged down by responsibilities and should take care of themselves.

"I think daughters as well as mothers who have responsibilities should not be bogged down by the responsibilities. Symptoms are something that you may not get to know for a long time. You should take an action and forcefully and not just plain talking, " Kaur said.

Riteish turns Marathi singer in 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum'

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

We all knew that Riteish Deshmukh was an entertainer par excellence. But 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum' has shown his versatility. He has turned lyricist and singer in the hit 'UP Bihar Lootne' track, which has been rendered (for the first time together) by Sukhwinder Singh and Daler Mehndi.

When Balaji was working on a new version of Shilpa Shetty’s famous item number, being a Maharashtrian, Riteish asked his producer to extend the song to incorporate Maharashtra in it.

“Riteish was very excited about the song from the beginning. He spontaneously decided that Maharashtra be a part of the new song, ” says an insider from the film’s unit.

To ensure the authenticity of the track, Riteish turned singer and lyricist for the Marathi portions in the track and sat with the composers Meet Brothers Anjjan to understand the meter and rhythm of the track. As a result, the original song from Shool (1999) has been reworked quite a bit.

When contacted, Tanuj Garg, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures confirms, “The UP-Bihar track shows us a new dimension of Riteish. He has done a terrific job in bringing the track from UP and Bihar to Maharashtra. We have a sure-shot chartbuster on our hands."

Gurinder Chaddha turns Bend It Like Beckham into a Westend Musical, Bally Sagoo on board

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Gurinder Chaddha has finished the script work on the musical Westend stage version of her most well-known film Bend It Like Beckham. She’s naturally kicked about going back to her roots with her beloved film.

“In a way Bend It Like Beckham Musical is a homage to the Hindi movies I grew up watching where all the emotions were expressed through song and music. We even have a song where the father sings his emotions about his parental duty to his daughter.

If that isn’t K L Saigal coming to Westend, what is? The music composer is the legendary Howard Goodall and the lyricist is Charles Hart who wrote the lyrics of The Phantom Of The Opera.”

There will of course be a teekha chatpata desi flavour to the Westend version of Beckham.

Reveals Gurinder, “My dear friend Bally Sagoo will be in the mix too to ensure we have the British Indian flavour. The musical is turning into a kind of Fiddler On The Roof set in Southall with a father lamenting the choices of his daughters and a mother banging on about 'tradition' and when my husband Paul Berges and I were writing the book for the musical we found it very helpful to refer to Fiddler as it is in essence a very Indian musical.”

The lead that was played by Parminder Nagra ten years ago would have to be chosen on the basis of the actress’ ability to sing dance and act.

Says Gurinder excitedly, “We will be going live on our website and I will be asking anyone who thinks she can sing and dance and play Jess on the Westend stage to upload their audition to the website.”

Arbaaz Khan`s car mows down woman to death
A 70-year-old woman was crushed to death in Mumbai by a car, which allegedly belongs to actor and filmmaker Arbaaz Khan

A 70-year-old woman was killed when she was knocked down by a Land Cruiser owned by Bollywood filmmaker Arbaaz Khan, police here said Monday.

"It was most unfortunate, the woman suddenly came in front of the vehicle and fell. The driver immediately applied the brakes and reported the matter to the police," the actor's father and eminent writer Salim Khan told.

He claimed that the woman, apparently frail, was not "crushed" as claimed in some quarters, but fell near the vehicle.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday near St. Andrew's Church when the vehicle was headed towards the home of the Khans at Bandstand.

The car was being driven by Dhananjay Pimpale, the driver, who has been arrested on charges of rash and negligent driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He will be presented before a local court later Monday.

Pimpale was subjected to a medical test shortly after the incident and was not under intoxication, preliminary information indicated.

The woman has been identified as Chandra Bala, police said. She was rushed to the Bhabha hospital by a police constable and some autorickshaw drivers in the vicinity but succumbed to her injuries.

At the time of the incident, no members of the Khan family were present in the vehicle, police said.

Salim has three sons - Arbaaz, who produced the hit "Dabangg", Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and filmmaker Sohail Khan.

Salim Khan castigated the media saying that instead of finding out the whereabouts of the poor woman and her family or survivors, the focus was more on his celebrity family -- whether they were inside the vehicle and who owned the vehicle.

He added that the vehicle belonged to Arbaaz but was being used temporarily by Sohail. No family member was present in the vehicle at the time of the accident, he said.
