Rajaa Alsanea is a Saudi writer who is most famous for her book, “Girls of Riyadh”. This book (which is written as a series of emails) chronicles 4 girls in Riyadh and their experiences with relationships with men. This book brings to light the relationship dynamics in the very conservative Saudi Islamic culture. Rajaa grew up in Riyadh, but now lives in Chicago where she is a dental graduate student.

I like Rajaa because she is not a model, actress, or celebrity, but rather a very beautiful Saudi woman. Looking at this picture, you see just how striking she is. She does not cover her whole face, but she does traditionally cover her head. What strikes me most are her eyes and lips. Her eyes are amazingly intense and they look through you, but they also have a softness and sweetness about them. Her lips are amazingly soft as well. It actually looks like she’s wearing some expensive lipstick, but I’m sure she’s not. Her eyebrows look professionally done as well. To think of it, I think this is an Americanized version of Rajaa. So you get the beauty of the West with the tradition of the desert. I love it!
