Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap denies Ekta Kapoor is upset with him as his "Gangs Of Wasseypur - Part I" released without any censorship issues, while she has had to face a roadblock with the trailer of her sex comedy "Kya Super Kool Hain Hum".

Known for being straightforward, Kashyap rubbished the runours saying Ekta called him and told that she "loved my film".

"She would have said it (she's upset with me) in a different context. It got interpreted as something (else). I cannot believe that she is miffed at me," he added.

How can you compare Gangs of Wasseypur with a film like 3 Idiots

How can you compare `Gangs of Wasseypur` with a film like `3 Idiots`
"Gangs of Wasseypur", based on real-life story, has collected Rs.10 crore in the opening weekend. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is satisfied and says the crime thriller is his first film to earn so much at the box office.

"We thought that people were liking the film, but in the first three days, we didn't collect so much. But even that collection has been the biggest of my life. The kind of film this is and the kind of actors there are, the collection was big," Kashyap said at the success party of the film Thursday.

Recently many mainstream commercial ventures like "Singham" and "Rowdy Rathore" crossed the Rs.100 crore mark.

But Kashyap, known for giving hits like "Dev D" and "Udaan", said: "Rs.100 crore is too much of an expectation. If it happens, it is good. I want that whoever has worked in the film should earn a lot of money."

The gang war drama based in Wasseypur in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, has non-commercial names in the cast such as Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Piyush Mishra and newcomer Richa Chadha. Despite that it is luring people.

"It is a film where barring Manoj, people don't know anyone. In addition, the film had everything going against it - the two parts, one part being an incomplete story, the kind of language and adult certificate. People see the negative points more. So, even if we don't cross Rs.100 crore, it is fine with us," he said.

He also feels that comparing "Gangs of Wasseypur" with commercial blockbusters like "3 Idiots" is unjustified.

"...This comparison is unfair. If you compare my film with '3 Idiots', then I should compare that with 'Avengers'. See the picture according to its budget," he said.

What makes Kashyap happy that the industry has finally accepted his kind of films.

"I have got acceptance after a long time and I am happy. I always wanted to get accepted for the films I make. A lot of directors, who I think very high off, have called me (to congratulate). Bachchan saab also (Amitabh Bachchan) tweeted (praising the film). It made so much of a difference," he said.

"A lot of things have happened with the film. I also got the freedom to make a film which I believe in," said Kashyap adding that he did without any "market pressure".

"This is the only way this kind of cinema will go ahead and we would be able to do new things," he said.

The mystery surrounding the release of the second part of gritty thriller "Gangs Of Wasseypur" has been revealed -- the movie will hit screens Aug 8, which happens to be a Wednesday.

"For all those asking and also those not asking but are eager to know #GOW2 will release on 8th August, " tweeted Kashyap.

"Sunn toh liya hai aapne ab apni aankhon se dekh bhi lo (You've heard it, now see it too), " he added with a mini-poster that reads "'Gangs Of Wasseypur' releasing 8th August, 2012".

The movie is an extension of "Gangs of Wasseypur", which released June 22 to much critical acclaim and also turned out to be a box office bonanza.

Earlier, the release date of the second part wasn't announced.

Both the parts were screened at 65th Cannes International Film Festival, and were applauded by international film aficianados.

The first part narrates the story of Sardar Khan and Ramadir Singh, based on the real life story of Shafi Khan and Surya Dev Singh, both of whom were rivals and are no longer alive.

Part two of the movie is essentially the story of Sardar Khan's son Faisal Khan, who is Faheem Khan in real life. Faheem Khan is alive and in the Dhanbad jail currently.

According to insiders, the makers of the film wanted to sort out all possible issues which could act as a roadblock, before announcing the release date.

Reel revenge saga leads to outrage in real life Wasseypur

Reel revenge saga leads to outrage in real life Wasseypur
The critically acclaimed "Gangs of Wasseypur", a gritty celluloid saga of the coal mafia and blood thirsty vengeance, may have set the cash registers ringing, but residents of this town say the success comes at the cost of their integrity, respect and honour.

Anurag Kashyap's directorial venture gives a distorted message about the Muslim-dominated area's social, cultural and economic life and only perpetuates stereotypes, say the outraged people of Wasseypur, just two kilometres from Dhanbad station.

From the title to the content, the film, boasting an ensemble cast including Manoj Bajpayee, has led to hurt and indignation here.

"The film presents a wrong picture of Wasseypur. They mixed facts with fiction and came out with something that is dangerous. People don't know what is the truth and what is fiction, " Sahil Siddiqui, who guides students for the civil services exams, told.

The town, about 165 km from state capital Ranchi, has a population of about 200, 000 and does focus on education unlike what the film attempts to portray.

"The history doesn't start with the conflict between Pathans and Qureshis (as the film makes it out). It was just a conflict between two gangs over scrap business. The foundation was laid by the late Wassey Sahab and Jabbar Sahab in 1955-56. They were known contractors of Dhanbad, " said dentist Taqi Anwar.

Story writer Zeishan Quadri, who belongs to Wasseypur, told that "the film is 80 percent real and 20 percent fiction". The residents, however, disagree, saying that the film is an "insensitive" and "brutal" portrayal of a way of life that doesn't exist in reality.

According to Anwar, the film attempts to "generalise criminal conflict between two people as the story and history of Wasseypur".

"When the film starts it says 'yahan ek se ek haramzade rehte hain'. It's totally unacceptable, " added a visibly upset Anwar.

The anger is widespread.

Imran Khan, an educationist, told that the film is a "dirty and wrong picturisation of the place".

"It is like any other locality, where both good and bad people live. The film attempts to make a hero out of some criminal elements. People do not use filthy language as shown in the film. Doctors, engineers and IAS officers live here, " said Imran.

Abu Tarique, a marketing executive, described "Gangs of Wasseypur" as "third grade" as it does not challenge but sustains "the stereotypes associated with Wasseypur in general and Muslims in particular".

Asadur Rahman, a journalist with Urdu daily Faruqi Tanzeem, said the film "stalls the integration of Wasseypur" with the mainstream society.

"There was already an official bias and discrimination with the Muslim-dominated locality and now with this film, it'll be further aggravated. The film may lead to further segregation of Wasseypur from the mainstream society."

"Why did Anurag Kashyap choose a Muslim area?" he asked.

In the view of Bilquis Khanum, general secretary of district Congress party's women's cell, the film has already done the damage.

"My kids have been subjected to lewd comments by his classmates in schools. Children of the locality are being nicknamed as Sardar Khan (the gang lord played by Manoj). What message does this film gives to the youth?" she asked.

BJP minority cell president of Dhanbad Jawed Khan says he had sent a legal notice to Kashyap, which the filmmaker did not receive.

"The film is an attempt to defame Wasseypur. On June 13, we filed a case in the Jharkhand High Court demanding that the name of the film be changed and some dialogues be changed. We do not object to the film being made, but the film is on the story of coal mafias, then why drag Wasseypur's name in, " he asked.

"I had led a peaceful protest outside the cinema halls on the first day of the film. We painted the posters black and marked the day as Black Day for citizens of Wasseypur, " Jawed told.

Ganging up against Anurag Kashyap?

Ganging up against Anurag Kashyap?
With the makers anticipating trouble from real-life gang lords, the release date of the second part of 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' could be delayed

It looks like Part Two of Anurag Kashyap’s recent gangster film may still be some time away from hitting the marquee. Buzz is that the makers are no longer certain of being able to release the second part, three weeks after the first part of Gangs of Wasseypur released because they are anticipating trouble posed by the families of some people on whom characters in Part Two are based.

Our source says, “The makers are apparently trying to make sure that no one from the family of Shafi Khan (which Manoj Bajpayee played as Sardar Khan) are offended by the contents of the film.”

The source adds, “All the characters in the first half of the film are no longer alive. Be it Tigmanshu Dhulia’s character based on Suryadev Singh or his son J P Singh or even Shafi Khan.

Hence, there were no controversies.” The source, however, points out that Shafi Khan’s son, Faheem Khan (on whom Nawazuddin’s character Faisal is based), is alive and currently in a Dhanbad jail. Faheem, alongwith Gopi Khan (on whom Reema Sen’s son’s role is based) who is also alive, currently runs the mafia circle in Dhanbad, where the film is set.

Our source says, “The first half was well received, especially in Bihar; so the makers do not want any trouble with Part Two.

They are in the process of reaching a settlement with Faheem Khan’s family and once that is sorted the film will be released.” Incidentally, the family of Gangs writer Syed Zeishan Quadri also resides in Dhanbad. The makers of the film remained unavailable for comment.
