After a promising opening day collection of Rs.12.10 crore, Rohit Shetty's action-comedy "Bol Bachchan" went nearly houseful on the weekend and amassed Rs.50.13 crore by Monday.

Said to be inspired by 1979 movie "Gol Maal", "Bol Bachchan", made on a budget of Rs.70 crore, features Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai.

The movie collected over Rs.43.10 crore during the weekend after it released July 6. Post the opening day collection of Rs.12.10 crore, the movie made Rs.14 crore on Saturday, and approximately Rs. 17 crore.

Presented by Fox Star Studios, the Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision and Ajay Devgn Ffilms- produced movie is reportedly Devgn and Shetty's biggest opener, having generated 36 per cent higher figures than "Singham" and around 43 per cent bigger than "Golmaal 3".

Distributor Rajesh Thadani of Mumbai-based Multimedia Combine, says the film did well on Sunday and there wasn't a big dip in the footfalls Monday.

"'Bol Bachchan' has done pretty well all over India during the weekend. It had a business of Rs.38 crore all over India. The film picked up quite well on Sunday, and there was not a great fall on Monday either, " Thadani told.

A comical entertainer, "Bol Bachchan" has been able to pull in audiences in large numbers.

"It is basically family audience that came together to enjoy the film, " Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan, told.

"The film has got a tremendous response. It managed to collect Rs.7.80 crore in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and Rs.3 crore in Punjab in first three days. Since school holidays got extended, lots of families came in to watch the movie together and had a good time, said Mahajan.

Piyush Raizada, director, Delight Cinema says despite rains, it was nearly a houseful for "Bol Bachchan".

"The movie has received an amazing response and is appreciated among classes and masses. It did extraordinarily well on Friday and Saturday, and went houseful despite the rains, " Raizada told.

Internationally too, "Bol Bachchan" is doing extremely well when compared to other recent releases overseas.

It earned a total of $2.06 million over the weekend -- $540, 000 (US), $255, 000 (Britain), $650, 000 (Middle East), $167, 000 (Australia) and $450, 000 from the rest of the world.

Rohit Shetty’s latest film Bol Bachchan has managed to set the cash registers ringing in its opening weekend. Acccording to the trade, the film seems to be on it way to becoming another blockbuster from the Rohit Shetty-Ajay Devgn pair, making it their third film in a row after Golmaal 3 and Singham.

The first weekend collections are around Rs 43.10 crore, with a opening day of Rs 12.10 crore followed by Rs 12 crore net on Saturday and around Rs 17 crore approximately on Sunday.

This is by far the biggest opening of Ajay Devgn in his 20 year long career. On the other hand, Spider-Man collected around Rs 41 crore in its first week and around Rs 7 crore in its second weekend. Last week’s release Maximum has disappointed.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, “Bol Bachchan opened well and on Sunday it took a huge jump with family audience coming in big numbers.

The most important part, which we did not see in the case of recent hits like Rowdy Rathore and Agneepath is that the children have enjoyed the film and that is bringing in repeat audiences. The collections of Spider-Man in its second weekend have been disappointing and Bol Bachchan is the major reason for that.”

On the same vein, trade analyst Atul Mohan says, “The collections as expected has delivered of Bol Bachchan. Rohit Shetty is delivering and can be rightfully said as a hit machine. The question was whether it will enter the Rs 100 crore club or not?

With the opening collections, it seems that it is well on it’s way. Spider-Man’s first week has been pretty good but on the second weekend the collection has fallen.”

Director Rohit Shetty is overwhelmed with the response his comic caper "Bol Bachchan" is getting and is open to making a sequel.

"You want me to make a sequel? OK, we will think about it," said Rohit at a theatre here where he and Abhishek Bachchan had come to gauge the audiences' reaction.

Abhishek, who has worked in the "Dhoom" frenchise and also doing "Dostana 2", is more than eager to pitch in.

"He (Rohit Shetty) is a sequel king director. He has made three-four sequels and I have worked in three-four sequels. So if he says, we both are ready but now we have to persuade Ajayji (Ajay Devgn) for it," the 36-year-old said.

Rohit's first comedy film "Golmaal: Fun Unlimited" released in 2006 and was a super hit. He made two sequels to the film - "Golmaal Returns" (2008) and "Golmaal 3" (2010) and is already working on "Golmaal 4" slated for a release in 2013.

Meanwhile, Abhishek is very happy that the movie is running to full houses.

"Today, our movie has been screened here (Galaxy Theatre, Mumbai) and is being liked by the audiences. So it feels good. Till now, we haven't met the audience. We are standing at the back waiting for them to know their reactions. But the biggest compliment is that the movie is running houseful," said Abhishek.

"Bol Bachchan" hit theatres July 6 and is loosely based on Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1979 cult-comedy "Golmaal".

It is very rare that one directors praises a fellow filmmmaker's movie. But Karan Johar makes an exception and lauds Rohit Shetty and his recent release "Bol Bachchan".

Released July 6, "Bol Bachchan" (BB) features Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin Thottumkal, and Prachi Desai in lead roles.

Rohit Shetty has a gift for all movie buffs in Gujarat. The director has decided to release his new film "Bol Bachchan" in the state at midnight for the convenience of the women observing the auspicious Jayaparvati fast.

This year, the Jayaparvati fast for the well-being of one's family started July 1 and will end Friday.

According to belief, on the fifth day of the fast, women stay awake all night and break the fast the next morning.

For their entertainment, Shetty has decided to schedule two shows of "Bol Bachchan" -- 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. and 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. -- much before the release of the movie anywhere else in India.

"This is the first time that a movie is releasing early, specially for this occasion and it is an innovative way to celebrate it with a laugh riot 'Bol Bachchan'," said a source from the production.

Loosely based on 1979 film "Golmaal", "Bol Bachchan" features Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai.

Other people might fear critics but not director Rohit Shetty, who believes they are his lucky charm - every film they trash goes on to work magic at the box office!

The man, known for slapstick cinema like the "Golmaal" series and "All The Best: The Fun Begins", says he focusses on audiences while designing a project. "Critics are my lucky charm. I am fine if critics thrash my film, but the audience likes it. The day I make a film for critics I'll lose a lot of money and I don't want to do that," Shetty told in an interview.

His next offering "Bol Bachchan" falls in the tried and tested slapstick category. Releasing Friday, it will see Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan trying to tickle the funny bone along with co-stars Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai.

Shetty, who has also made the full-on action film "Singham", denies having "any formula".

"Yes, I target the audience. I just want to make people happy and entertain them and that is the most important thing for me."

Any plans to make films in some other genre?

"I don't know. It should come from my heart more than anything else. I am happy making the films I am making because it is loved by my audience. They are happy watching my kind of a film."

"Ten years down the line, I will be making the same stuff, but I am happy that the audience likes it. There is a smile on their faces when they watch my films," he said.

Son of the legendary fight master Shetty, the 39-year-old made his Bollywood debut as a director with 2003 film "Zameen".

Unlike some others, he doesn't believe in extensive promotions.

"For that you need to be confident about your product and today the audience is quite smart. Creating controversies is not going to help. If you are honest, you prepare them and tell them what the film is all about. They will come to see your film and it will be a success," he said.

"Promotion is important. But you should be honest in telling what your product is and you should not misguide and cheat the audience. I don't like to talk about my work because by the grace of god people know what a Rohit Shetty film is about.Then why try to do some gimmick?" he said.

Refusing to comment on the promotional techniques of his colleagues, he added that " producers have their own idea of promoting the film and I am no one to judge their work".

"...I don't like to be judged by my colleagues; if I want that respect from them, I have to respect them in the same way."

Most of Shetty's films have one thing in common -- good friend Ajay Devgn. And there's no lobby at work, he says.

"There is no lobby, no camp and no club. It is just that you become friends, you become comfortable with a few people, you gel with a few people and you don't gel with a few people so I think that's how the term called lobby comes in."
